Recap: WordCamp Miami 2019

March 26, 2019 Mayra Pena

Liquid Web is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of WordCamps North America. If you have never attended a WordCamp before, you should consider attending one in your area. WordCamps are casual, locally organized conferences that cover everything and anything about WordPress. They have great educational sessions, inspiring sessions, and great networking opportunities. Our team had a great time during WordCamp Miami a few weeks back and we sat down with Lindsey Miller, our Partner Manager for Managed WordPress, who attended WordCamp Miami.

Q: Miami seems like a great location for a WordCamp event! When was the event, how was it? Who attended from Liquid Web?

Miami is always such a fun spot. You have nice weather, great venues, great food, great people – what more can you ask for? WordCamp Miami was a few weeks ago March 15- 17th. I traveled with a great team of folks including Saralynn Scherer, who leads our Affiliates team, Chris Lema, our VP of Products and Innovation, and Andrew Norcross, Sr. Engineer and Developer for WordPress. Here is a photo of our booth.

Q: What was your favorite part of WordCamp Miami?

A really cool thing that #WCMIA did this year was a meetup the night before. Almost 100 people RSVP’d and got to connect before WordCamp officially started. It was a smart thing to do since WordCamp started the next morning at 8 am and many people arrived the night before. I attended and had the opportunity to spend some special time with my friend Karim Marucchi from Crowd Favorite.

Q: What was your experience at the Liquid Web booth? Were you able to speak with Liquid Web customers?

Starting bright and early on Saturday we provided coffee and pastries to everyone who came by our booth; we had too many conversations to count. There were so many current customers who stopped by, like Daniel Gudema, Melanie Adcock, and John Johnson. They all wanted to make sure I knew that our support team was THE BEST they have ever encountered. But don’t take my word for it, check out the praise they gave us.

Q: Did Liquid Web have any speaking sessions?

Yes, we did! Andrew Norcross had an “Ask Me Anything” About Development session for on Saturday. He did such a great job! People came to the booth wanting to ask him even more questions after the session.

Chris Lema had two sessions. He presented on Designing the Perfect Product Page For Your Store which talked about the psychology of how to help a buyer make a decision and design implementation, instead of letting the plugin dictate what that page should look like. His slides can be found here.

He was also a part of the three-part advanced learning session and shared his wealth of knowledge and stories about best practices for business growth.

Q: Any big Liquid Web news while there?

If you follow me or Liquid Web on Twitter I’m sure you might have already heard the huge announcement we made over the weekend. Christie Chirinos, Co-Founder of Caldera Forms is the newest Liquid Web employee to join our team as Product Manager for Managed WooCommerce Hosting. She also had a speech over the weekend on Don’t Get An MBA, Get a UX Education.

Q: WordCamp usually has some really awesome parties, how was the afterparty this year?

The afterparty was sponsored by our friend Chris Teitzel from Lockr. Our attendees, volunteers, and sponsors got to have a little celebration and even more connecting time because of Chris and people like him.

For me, this is what attending a WordCamp is all about. Networking and connecting with other WordPress fanatics like yourself.

Who knows; we may see you at the next event!
