What is a VMware Template?

A VMware template is a master copy of a virtual machine.

Here are two ways to create a VMware template:

  1. Clone to Template Method: Make an exact copy of the virtual machine, creating a fully functional virtual machine instance. To do this, log into your vSphere account and clone the VM. Input your preferred settings to finish your template.
  2. Convert to Template Method: Convert an existing virtual machine into a template. The virtual machine is replaced by the template and is no longer functional. To do this, log into your vSphere account and convert your VM into a template. Your existing settings will be incorporated.
